An ultra-modern distillery in Louisville's trendy NuLu neighborhood. Founded by two psychologists who quit their careers to pursue bourbon, Rabbit Hole brings a fresh, innovative approach to a traditional craft.
Rabbit Hole is the most architecturally modern distillery in Louisville. The NuLu location puts it in one of the city's trendiest neighborhoods, and the facility feels like it belongs — sleek, contemporary, and unapologetically different from the historic buildings on Whiskey Row.
The origin story is genuinely great: two clinical psychologists, husband and wife, developed a passion for bourbon, quit their careers, mortgaged their house, and "went down the rabbit hole." That entrepreneurial spirit shows in their approach — they're not trying to be the next Maker's Mark, they're trying to be something new.
The bourbon lineup includes some interesting variations: Dareringer (finished in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks), Cavehill (four-grain bourbon using malted wheat), and Heigold (high-rye bourbon). If you want to taste bourbons that don't taste like everything else on the trail, Rabbit Hole delivers.
Tour the modern facility and learn about their unique grain-to-glass process. The tasting at the end covers their full lineup including the sherry-finished and four-grain expressions. Good for visitors who want something different.
A seated, more in-depth tasting experience. Smaller groups and access to limited releases. Worth the upgrade for whiskey enthusiasts.
Rabbit Hole is easy to book. NuLu is slightly off the main Whiskey Row strip, so it gets less walk-in traffic than Angel's Envy or Old Forester. Reservations 1–2 weeks out are plenty. Walk-ups are often available.
Note they're closed Monday and Tuesday. Open Wednesday through Sunday.
Well-designed gift shop matching the modern aesthetic. Their core lineup is at MSRP. The Dareringer (PX sherry-finished) is the most popular buy and makes a distinctive gift — it tastes like nothing else on the trail. Branded merchandise leans design-forward and contemporary.
Rabbit Hole is the best distillery on the trail for people who want something genuinely different. The modern approach, unique grain bills, and interesting finishes set it apart from the traditional bourbon stops. It won't replace a Whiskey Row visit but it's an excellent complement — especially if you're staying in or exploring Louisville's NuLu neighborhood. The Dareringer sherry finish is the bottle to buy.
