The original Whiskey Thief site: a 127-acre working farm near Frankfort where they grow their own grain and corn for a true grain-to-glass bourbon program. Sister location to their Louisville Tasting Room, but this is where the whiskey is actually made.
This is the original Whiskey Thief Distilling Co. site, a 127-acre working farm in rural Franklin County, just north of I-64 at exit 48. Unlike most distilleries on the trail, they grow their own grain and corn right on the property and run it through a pot-still single distillation process, a true grain-to-glass operation from field to bottle. Visible rickhouses and working stills make it clear this is a real production farm, not a built-for-tourists facility.
It's one of the most unique and intimate experiences on the entire Bourbon Trail. The combination of the working farm setting, live music, a food truck, and the chance to thieve your own pour straight from the barrel makes this feel less like a tour and more like an afternoon spent at a friend's farm who happens to distill bourbon.
On arrival, check in with a Steward at the Stillhouse. From there it's self-paced: tour the production area, taste, and explore the grounds. The farm also hosts private dinners and weddings in its open-air spaces and barrel-lined rooms, so don't be surprised if you see a private event in progress.
Tour the Stillhouse and sample up to five bourbons and/or whiskeys straight from the barrel. If you find one you love, you can fill your own bottle for an additional cost. Wraps up with a visit to the Pro Shop.
A walkthrough of the Stillhouse and farm without the tasting, good for designated drivers, those under 21, or anyone short on time before the food truck and live music kick off.
Walk-ups are welcome, no advance reservation required for the standard tour. Open Monday through Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM (last tour 4:30 PM) and Sunday 11 AM to 5 PM (last tour 4:30 PM). The food truck and cocktail bar run Thursday through Sunday, that's the best window if you want the full farm-and-music atmosphere.
The Pro Shop carries exclusive single barrels, seasonal releases, moonshines, and other Kentucky-made goods, including the bottle you may have just filled yourself straight from the barrel. A genuinely different gift shop experience from the standard distillery merch table.
This is the real Whiskey Thief experience, and one of the most unique and intimate stops on the entire Bourbon Trail. The working farm setting, live music, food truck, and the chance to thieve and bottle your own pour combine for something you won't find at the bigger production distilleries. It's a bit of a drive off the beaten path, but worth treating as a dedicated stop rather than an afterthought.

Frankfort's most famous distillery, a very different scale and vibe.
Fellow craft farm distillery in Lawrenceburg.
Beautifully restored historic site with a great cocktail bar.
The best restaurant in downtown Frankfort.
Whiskey Thief's farm pairs naturally with a Frankfort day alongside Buffalo Trace and Castle & Key, or with Larrikin Distillery in nearby Lawrenceburg. Given the rural drive off I-64 exit 48, it's best treated as a dedicated stop, ideally Thursday through Sunday so the food truck and cocktail bar are running.
