Formerly Three Boys Farm Distillery, Whiskey Thief is a craft operation with a growing reputation for distinctive, flavorful spirits. This is their urban tasting room in Louisville's NuLu neighborhood, sister location to their original Franklin County farm distillery where the spirits are actually made.
Whiskey Thief Distilling Co. (formerly Three Boys Farm Distillery) has two very different faces on the Bourbon Trail. This NuLu location is their urban tasting room and listening lounge, not a working distillery. The actual stills, rickhouses, and grain fields are an hour east at their Franklin County farm distillery near Frankfort. If you want to see whiskey being made and thieve your own barrel pour at the source, that's the location to visit.
What you get here instead is a relaxed NuLu bar experience: barrel-strength tastings, handcrafted cocktails, and a curated bottle shop, set inside a neighborhood packed with indie bars, galleries, and street murals. The name "Whiskey Thief" still comes from the tool distillers use to draw samples from aging barrels, and that idea carries over here too, you can taste straight from the cask and fill your own bottle at barrel strength, even though the barrels themselves were filled out in Franklin County.
This is a good stop for visitors who want a more low-key, lounge-style evening in Louisville rather than another guided distillery tour, especially Thursday through Saturday when local jazz, blues, and bluegrass acts play in the listening room.
Taste bourbon straight from the cask at barrel strength, and if you find one you like, fill your own bottle to take home. No guided tour here, just a relaxed, self-paced tasting.
Handcrafted cocktails in a listening-lounge setting, with local jazz, blues, and bluegrass acts Thursday through Saturday. A solid evening stop if you've already spent the day at the bigger Whiskey Row distilleries.
No reservation needed, this is a walk-in tasting room and bar. Open seven days a week: Monday through Wednesday 11 AM to 7 PM, Thursday through Saturday 11 AM to 11 PM (live music nights), and Sunday noon to 8 PM. A good complement to a Louisville day if you want to explore beyond Whiskey Row in the evening.
Curated bottle shop and merchandise on-site. A chance to buy something you won't find anywhere else, including bottles you fill yourself straight from the barrel. Good for visitors collecting unique craft finds from each stop on the trail.
This NuLu tasting room is a relaxed, walk-in evening stop, not a substitute for visiting the actual distillery. It won't replace a Whiskey Row tour, but if you're staying in Louisville and want a low-key bar experience with live music and the same bottle-your-own gimmick, it's worth a stop. For the real grain-to-glass experience, make time for the Franklin County farm instead.
