What to Expect

Kentucky Peerless is a few blocks north of Whiskey Row and worth the short walk. The Corley family revived the Peerless name (originally distilling in the 1880s) and built a genuine grain-to-glass operation — meaning they control every step from sourcing grain to bottling. No sourced whiskey here.

The rye whiskey is the star. Peerless Rye has won multiple awards and developed a serious following among whiskey enthusiasts. The bourbon is also excellent — bold, full-flavored, and non-chill-filtered. Everything is bottled at barrel proof, which means you're getting the whiskey exactly as it comes out of the barrel.

Tours are smaller and more personal than the big Whiskey Row operations. You're likely to meet family members or long-time employees who genuinely care about the product. The tasting at the end is generous and educational.

How to Book

Peerless is easy to book. Walk-ups are common, especially on weekdays. A reservation a few days ahead is more than enough. Note they're closed Monday and Tuesday.

The Bottom Line

Peerless is the best craft distillery stop in Louisville. The grain-to-glass commitment is real, the rye is outstanding, and the personal atmosphere is a welcome contrast to the polished Whiskey Row operations. If you have time for a fourth Louisville stop, this is it. The rye alone is worth the visit.
