It's a craft distillery operating on a restored historic site about 15 minutes south of Bardstown, with a campus feel that's distinctly different from the polished big-name distilleries.
The vibe here is relaxed, uncrowded, and genuinely craft-focused. You're likely to meet the people actually making the whiskey, and the conversations you have are more personal than anything you'll get at Buffalo Trace or Maker's Mark. Their Monk's Road bourbon is excellent — better than what you'd expect from a smaller operation.
The campus itself is growing, with event spaces and expanded tasting options. It feels like a place that's on the rise but hasn't been "discovered" yet by the mainstream trail crowd. That's part of the appeal.
