Built by People Who've Actually Done the Trail

Bourbon Trail Planner exists because we planned our own trips, made plenty of mistakes, and figured we could save other people the same headaches.

We're bourbon enthusiasts who've done the Bourbon Trail multiple times — as first-timers who showed up without reservations (mistake), as planners who over-scheduled every hour (also a mistake), and eventually as travelers who figured out the right balance of preparation and flexibility.

Along the way we learned things that aren't obvious from the distillery websites: which tours are actually worth the money, which "must-book" experiences you can walk up to on a Tuesday, where the allocated bottles really are, and why your Day 2 pacing matters more than your Day 1 itinerary.

What We Believe

Honest reviews over promotion

Every distillery review on this site includes an honest rating and a real verdict. We tell you when a $75 premium tour isn't worth the upgrade over the $20 standard, and when it absolutely is. We don't get paid by distilleries, and our ratings reflect what we actually experienced.

Practical over pretty

You don't need a 5,000-word essay about the history of corn mash. You need to know how far in advance to book Buffalo Trace, whether Maker's Mark is worth the drive, and what to do when your first-choice tour is sold out. That's what we focus on.

Pacing over packing

The biggest mistake people make on the Bourbon Trail is trying to do too much. Every itinerary we publish is designed around realistic timing, realistic energy levels, and the understanding that you're going to be tasting bourbon all day. More distilleries doesn't mean a better trip.

How This Site Makes Money

Transparency matters. Here's how we keep the lights on:

Some lodging recommendations on this site include properties we own or have a relationship with. These are always clearly marked and surrounded by legitimate alternatives so you can make an informed choice. As the site grows, we plan to incorporate affiliate links for lodging bookings, tour reservations, and featured distillery partnerships. Distilleries and tour companies may pay for premium placement or featured listings on this site.

Here's the important distinction: our editorial reviews and ratings are never for sale. A distillery can pay for a featured listing, but they can't pay us to change a rating from a 7.5 to a 9.0. Every review reflects our real experience. If a place isn't worth recommending on its merits, a paid placement won't change that — and we'll always clearly label what's sponsored vs. what's editorial. We think you can tell the difference, and we respect that.
